Samantha Clarke (soprano) graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama Opera School, where she studied with Yvonne Kenny, having previously studied with Mary Plazas at the Royal Northern College of Music. She was the recipient of an Independent Opera Voice Scholarship in 2016 and a Voice Fellowship in 2019, and she recently won the 2019 Guildhall Gold Medal and 2nd Prize and the Audience Prize in the 2019 Grange Festival International Singing Competition. Her previous awards have included the 2017 RNCM Gold Medal, the Nora Goodridge Developing Artist Award, the Dame Eva Turner Award and the Michael and Joyce Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss. Her operatic roles have included Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) at the GSMD, Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress) for British Youth Opera, Musetta (La bohème) for Opera North, and the title role in the Buxton Festival’s award-winning Georgiana. She is now an Associate Artist of Classical Opera, and made her company début as Fiordiligi in Sicily in November 2019.
