Sophie Bevan sings Mozart, Haydn and BeethovenFriday 25 September 2015, 7.30pm - Waterloo Chamber, Windsor Castle
Our 2015/16 season opens in the opulent setting of Windsor Castle, as the thrilling young British soprano Sophie Bevan joins Ian Page and the vibrant period-instrument Orchestra of Classical Opera for a concert of works by the three towering masters of the Classical period.
Bevan sings three of the greatest concert arias ever written - Mozart's remarkable "Bella mia fiamma", composed in Prague just a few days after the premiere of Don Giovanni, Haydn's magnificent Scena di Berenice, composed in London in 1795, and Beethoven's dramatic "Ah! perfido", written the following year in Vienna. Each of these dramatic soliloquies is a mini-opera in its own right, full of emotional intensity, psychological insight and superb music.
These arias are framed by three orchestral works in C major: Mozart's exuberant overture to La clemenza di Tito, Haydn's rarely performed overture to Windsor Castle, and Beethoven's exhilarating and prophetic First Symphony.
