new recording cycle of Mozart’s opera
In 2012 Classical Opera launches a major new recording cycle of Mozart’s complete operas, in association with the award winning Linn Records, named Record Label of the Year at the 2010 Gramophone Awards, and Bärenreiter-Verlag, Kassel.
Following Apollo et Hyacinthus, the second work in this complete cycle will be the sacred singspiel Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots, also written in Salzburg in 1767 and premiered just two months before Apollo et Hyacinthus. The illustrious cast includes Allan Clayton, Andrew Kennedy, Sarah Fox, Sophie Bevan and Cora Burggraaf.
In August 2013 we record Mitridate, re di Ponto with a cast including the renowned Swedish soprano Miah Persson as Aspasia, Andrew Kennedy (Mitridate), Sophie Bevan (Sifare) and Lawrence Zazzo (Farnace). This will be the first complete recording of the opera, to incorporate the original settings which the young Mozart was forced to abandon by his demanding original cast.
