The Classical Opera Company's latest Kings Place residency celebrates Thomas Arne's 300th birthday. Thomas Arne was the leading English composer of his day, but because so few of his works have survived in complete form it is hard to appraise the full extent of his achievements. The residency will feature an insight evening devoted to Arne’s operatic masterpiece, Artaxerxes, which is framed by two performances of Alfred, providing a rare opportunity to hear Arne’s most renowned work, “Rule, Britannia”, in its original context.

Following its acclaimed retrospectives of J.C.Bach, Handel and Gluck, the Classical Opera Company presents a fascinating and wide-ranging survey of the operas of Haydn. The programme includes an aria from every one of Haydn's operas and features former company Associate Artists Sophie Bevan and Rebecca Bottone (sopranos) and current Associate Artist Thomas Hobbs (tenor).
