The Classical Opera Company has enjoyed unrivalled success in discovering and developing top quality young singers. This work is central to the company’s ethos, and in 2006 we established an Associate Artist Scheme. This provides extensive performance opportunities both in London and on tour, including major roles in Mozart’s operas and a recital showcase, regular coaching and mentorship, careers advice and marketing assistance. Of the four inaugural Associate Artists, three have already been offered major roles at Covent Garden despite still being in their mid-twenties, and all three of our current Associate Artists are attracting interest from important opera houses.
We are delighted to have been invited to appear regularly at London’s newest concert hall, King’s Place, and we will be using our performances there specifically as a vehicle to develop young singers. In addition to our named Associate Artists, these performances will give important performance opportunities to other outstanding young singers, some of whom will be future Associate Artists. The cost of creating these opportunities in 2008-9 (after fees and box office income) is £55,000 and we still have over £40,000 to raise.
Membership of the Associate Artists Syndicate starts at £1,000, but all donations to this important aspect of our work are greatly appreciated. Donations qualify for higher-rate tax relief under the Gift Aid Scheme, which means that, in the tax year 2008/9, the net cost can be only 75% of the amount given.
